Close up of the shafts and drive wheels of the Big Boy 4004, one of the remaining versions of the worlds largest steam locomotive. To get a sense of the size here, note that the photo was taken by holding the camera at arms length over my head, which is about 6 feet.

Somewhere hiding in this valley is WY-296, my route down from the mountains towards Cody.

Near Sunlight Bridge on WY-296, Chief Joseph Highway. I believe this is called Sunlight Basin. Again, I wasn't able to capture the vastness of the distance here -- in the largest of pictures you can see that there is actually a set of buildings in this picture, down and to the left from the center.

Sunlight Creek Bridge, on WY-296 -- this is the highest highway bridge in Wyoming.

Running from the center down to the right side of the picture, the canyon of the Clarks Fork of the Yellowstone River. The canyon is quite deep with very steep sides, but I couldn't find anything about its dimensions.
Apologies for the color, it was getting late in the day and light was poor.

From Dead Indian Hill summit. The distance covered here is vast. In a large size of the picture you can see the road by the plateau on the right side of the picture, which is five miles straight line or 13 miles by road.

Plaque (and bullet holes) describing Dead Indian Hill Summit (8,000 feet). It was through here that Chief Joseph led the Nez Perce Indians in retreat in 1877 from the U.S. Army. (see adjacent)

In their retreat from the U.S. Army, the Nez Perce left a wounded warrior. He was killed by Army scouts, thus the name "Dead Indian Pass".
