Rotterdam City Hall (#0195)

Rotterdam City Hall (#0195)
City Hall (Stadshuis), one of the few largely remaining structures from pre-WWII. The majority of the center of Rotterdam was leveled by the Luftwaffe in 1940 during the German invasion of the Netherlands. The Dutch had already negotiated a ceasefire with the Germans two days before, but Rotterdam was bombed to speed the capitulation of the Dutch. Due to the level of destruction, it was decided to level most of the city center, which is one of the reason why Rotterdam has so much modern architecture compared to other European cities. The Wikipedia page has a picture of the destruction of central Rotterdam.
