Pillar Point Harbor (#0022)

Pillar Point Harbor (#0022)
I was intrigued by this apparently abandoned reminder of the fishing industry. Nearby, on shore, were buildings that looked like they might have once been fish processing plants, but I saw no explanation of the fishing industry here.

Crab (mostly) were unloaded at this pier and there are old, broken-down packing plants along the shore. The original fishermen were all from the Azores, who founded the town of Half Moon Bay. Their descendents still live there. Italian immigrants started growing flowers and other crops and a couple of big, commercial growers are still there, as well as retail nurseries along Hwy. 92. HMB Nursery, the best ever!!!

Dang, I'm homesick! Your photos have "triggered" me - lol!!!

And you're claiming I've lived everywhere! You're the first person I've "met" who actually knows HMB and its history. What you're saying about the fishing history reminds me of the fisheries around Provincetown and Cape Cod as well.
