Montana Glacier NP Going to Sun shuttle (#0230)

Montana Glacier NP Going to Sun shuttle (#0230)
From the shuttle as we approach the top (Logan Pass). Though not particularly evident from here, the stretch of road in the distance is an engineering marvel with wonderful wall and rock work. The Going to the Sun road first opened in 1932 as a crushed rock road, it was later paved and has been realigned in various segments. You can also make out a section of the High Line Trail above the road, a particularly treacherous hiking trail I've always wanted to take. That trail's one of the most popular in the park, though, so I've never taken it. I know it was closed for a while during the fire, but I'm pretty sure it opened when they opened this half of the road.
