Ivanpah Solar Facility, aka 'bird steamer' for the birds that somehow don't "know" that they shouldn't fly through the reflected rays. I was initally in favor of these types of solar facilities since they can easily be converted to store energy, but that was before it became clear that birds flying through the reflections were being cooked in flight.

Well there's a side effect I hadn't heard. I guess this thing's been going long enough to see the effect it has on its environment.

Admittedly there remains the question of comparing the environmental costs of this to the costs of the toxicity of petroleum or coal, or the impact of the damming from hydroelectric. The best would be to 'simply' reduce our use of energy :)
