WYPTE tow truck and bus in Rochdale – Aug 1974

WYPTE tow truck and bus in Rochdale – Aug 1974
August 1974 – The former Halifax Joint Omnibus Committee tow truck hitched up to a former Todmorden Joint Omnibus Committee Pennine bodied Leyland Leopard in Rochdale. Both had been transferred to the Calderdale Joint Omnibus Committee in September 1971 and now they were both in the fleet of the West Yorkshire Passenger Transport Executive (WYPTE) which absorbed CJOC on 1 April 1974.

The AEC truck which was probably a Matador and a former military vehicle sports the HJOC/Calderdale JOC livery. The bus, wearing WYPTE livery, is one of the six similar buses (BWU 688-693H) added to the TJOC fleet in November/December 1969. The first two of those had dual purpose high backed seating and the latter four had standard bus seating. So if that enables us to narrow down the options it may be one of those four assuming the seats were the originals.
It had worked to Rochdale on service 28 a service which HJOC took over from Hebble Motor Services in early 1971.
