It's the exit of Eppstein castle, situated on a mountain ridge in the Taunus, surrounded by castle moats, fortifications and flank-towers. This beautiful ruin offers an amazing outlook over the town and nearby villages.

Construite au XIIIe siècle, la gigantesque forteresse de 17 tours de schiste et de calcaire qui s’étendent sur près d’un demi-kilomètre dégage une formidable impression de puissance. Aux XIVe et XVe siècles, les ducs d’Anjou, princes éclairés, redonnent à Angers le faste d’une vie de cour dont témoigne l’architecture raffinée du site.

Burg Eppstein über der Altstadt ist mit ihren imposanten Befestigungsanlagen als gut erhaltenes Verteidigungssystem des 14. und 15. Jh. erlebbar. Eindrucksvoll präsentiert sich der einstige Adelssitz als Machtsymbol der Herren von Eppstein, die im 13. Jh. als Mainzer Erzbischöfe die Reichspolitik mitbestimmten. Im Museum auf der Burg ist die 1000-jährige Geschichte dieses bedeutsamen Kulturdenkmals anschaulich aufbereitet. Der Blick vom mächtigen Bergfried macht die Historie spürbar...
