Qu'est-ce que c'est au juste ?
Ce sont des "doués" (bassin de blanchiment), très nombreux dans le Pays de Loudéac où étaient fabriquées les toiles dites "les bretagnes". Ils sont la plupart du temps alimentés par une fontaine et constitués de grandes plaques de schiste. C’est dans ces bassins que les blanchisseurs trempaient les toiles de lin, initialement de couleur écrue, pour leur donner une blancheur irréprochable qui a fait, en plus de leur finesse, leur réputation.
WHAT EXACTLY IS THIS? These are "doués" (bleaching basins), still very abundant thoughout the Loudéac area. They date from the time when the fine linen cloth known as "les bretagnes" was manufactured here. Most of them received their water supply from a spring or well, they were made of great sheets of schist. The launderers soaked their linen sheets in these basins. Originally unbleached in colour, they took on a perfect whiteness which, along with their fine texture, gave them their reputation.
WAS IST DAS EIGENTLICH ? Es sind "doués" (Bleichbecken), noch häufig vorhanden in der Gegend um Loudéac. Sie stammen aus der Zeit, als hier das feine Leinentuch "les bretagnes" hergestellt wurde. Die meisten von ihnen wurden von einer Quelle oder einem Brunnen gespeist und bestanden aus grossen Schieferplatten. Die Wäscher tränkten ihre Leintücher in diesen Becken. Ursprünglich waren sie ungebleicht und erhielten eine perfekte Weisse, die ihnen zusammen mit ihrer feinen Textur ihren Ruf einbrachte.
