The old chestnut

This old tree stands beside the ruins of the 16th Century Torwood Castle, in Scotland.
Chestnut trees were commonly planted near buildings like this, back in the day, for food. One wonders how long it's been there. The tree is split at the trunk. but I passed it about a year ago and it still had some leaves.
