In Silent Splendour

Loch Achtriochtan , sometimes known as Loch Trychardan, Glencoe. This pretty freshwater loch is situated just east of Glencoe village in the district of Lochaber, Argyll and Bute. In the foreground is the bridge leading to Achnambeithach Cottage, nestled beneath Aonach Dubh and with waterfalls behind it has to be one of the nicest locations in Scotland. The stone built property dates from around 1900 and is privately owned. The loch is under the care of the National Trust for Scotland.

This is one of my most loved locations.

Thank you very much Isabel. This is always a lovely place to stop and not full of tourists. Sadly nowadays the main road through Glencoe does suffer from this problem. All of the stopping places are full of minibuses that disgorge their passengers for a while for photos and then on to the next place, doing nothing for the economy as they spend nothing in the area. Other parts of the area though still retain the wild charm and beauty with out the people!!

I was speechless and the sheer magnificence and beauty of the landscape when we first drove through it (and that takes a lot!!) . Every time we have been back it still has that effect on me. Hope you get to go back there someday.
