It wasn't a perfect design but no doubt it did save a lot of work, although not for the poor people who followed behind and collected the potatoes, - back breaking work I would think. Hard to imagine that we have come so far, from horses and potato spinners to the latest huge machines, Yes me too but it is sometimes hard to work out what things were used for which is a bit frustrating!

No doubt you are right - it was not a perfect design but probably innovative in it's day. Someone still had to walk behind and gather the potatoes too, which must have been the back breaking part! When you think of the huge machines used today farming has made massive strides forward though.

It looks so idyllic now but what hard work this must have been in the past!

Thank you Gudrun. It might have been the latest invention back then but it was still pretty labour intensive. People still had to follow and sort and pick up the potatoes. It must have been back breaking work
