Thank you very much George. It is remarkably well preserved. The village is charming and also very old and the burgages, - long narrow strips of land can still be evidenced today. Food was grown on them and livestock kept there but the only access would be through the front of the property. The front of the buildings would slope down to allow easier cleaning once the livestock had passed through! HFF and have e good week George

Thank you Esther. Yes I agree. It has had some restoration work done to it but it is in remarkably good condition. Sadly we didn't go over by boat to visit the Hermitage, a chapel and home for the priest that i built onto the cliff face on the river. It is on my list of things to see if we go there again. Thank you very much Pat. Really appreciated. The first stone building here was built in 1139 and the castle was granted to Roger Fitz Eustace in 1157. Improvements were carried out between 199-1215 with features that can still be recognised to this day. I later years this became home to the Percy family, Dukes of Northumberland.
