At the moment they are blooming again, the cowslip primroses (Primula veris). They are also called "Heaven's Keys" in some German areas. "There are various interpretations of the origin of the term "Heaven's Keys", which has been attested since at least the 15th century. These include the resemblance of the entire inflorescence to a key, with the flowers themselves representing the key bit and the stem representing the key tube, or by the similarity of the Flower umbel with a bunch of keys, whereby the individual flowers probably represent the keys. The term Heaven's Key, which has been used since at least the 12th century, is probably associated with Peter and his key to the kingdom of heaven."
