Ein Naturwunder geschieht - A natural wonder happens

Photographed today in the morning spring sun: a magnolia bud (Magnolia spec.) shortly before blossoming. It is astonishing that the bud scales are very hairy, which is probably one of the reasons why late frosts do not affect magnolias too much. It is remarkable that evidence of the genus Magnolia dates back to the Cretaceous period (100 million years ago, gradual end of the dinosaur period). Their flower structure is considered to be very original.
