Ein Profiteur des Klimawandels - A profiteer of climate change - PiPs
Die Blaue Holzbiene ( Xylocopa violacea), mit 23 - 28 mm die größte einheimische Bienenart, war bis in die 1980er Jahre nur in der Oberrheinebene bekannt. Seither breitete sie sich aufgrund der steigenden Jahrestemperaturen in ganz Deutschland aus. Trotz ihrer Größe und ihres gefährlichen Aussehens verhält sich diese Wildbiene, die stechen kann, gegenüber dem Menschen nicht aggressiv.
Im Bild ein Exemplar, das gerade eine Wiesen-Salbeiblüte besucht. Wenn der Bienenrüssel in die Blüte zum Nektarsaugen eindringt, wird dabei eine "Platte" bewegt, was zur Folge hat, dass sich die Staubblätter der Blüte wie ein Schlagbaum senken und den Rücken des Insekts mit Pollen einpudern (siehe Hauptbild und PiP). Bei älteren Salbei-Blüten hängen die Griffel des Wiesen-Salbeis bogenförmig nach unten. Wenn die mit Pollen „beladene“ Biene eine solche Blüte aufsucht, berührt sie mit ihrem Rücken die Narben und überträgt den fremden Pollen. Dadurch erfolgt die Bestäubung.
Die Aufnahme entstand im Botanischen Garten der Universität Würzburg.

The carpenter bee ( Xylocopa violacea), with 23 - 28 mm the largest native bee species, was known only in the Upper Rhine Plain until the 1980s. Since then, it has spread throughout Germany due to rising annual temperatures. Despite its size and dangerous appearance, this wild bee, which can sting, does not behave aggressively towards humans.
In the photo you can see a specimen just visiting a meadow sage blossom. When the bee's proboscis enters the flower to suck nectar, a "plate" is moved in the process, causing the flower's stamens to lower like a turnpike and powder the insect's back with pollen (see main picture and PiP). In older sage flowers, the pistils of the meadow sage hang down in an arc. When the bee "loaded" with pollen visits such a flower, it touches the stigma with its back and transfers pollen from other sage flowers. This is how pollination takes place.
