Auf dem Weg zum Falljökull Gletscher - On the way to the glacier Falljökull - mit PiP

The hiking group approaches the Falljökull glacier. Each participant has his
borrowed utensils (ice axes and the ice cramps for the hiking boots). The black "mountain" in the foreground is glacial ice, which is coloured black by volcanic ash.
The Falljökull Glacier is part of the Vatnajökull Glacier. Vatnajökull is the largest glacier in Iceland and also the largest in Europe outside the polar region. Its area is about 8.100 km², which is about 8 % of the area of Iceland. The ice volume is estimated at over 3,000 km³.
