Die Wandergruppe nähert sich dem Gletscher. Jeder Teilnehmer hat seine
ausgeliehenen Utensilien (Eispickel und die Eiskrampen für die Wanderschuhe) dabei. Das schwarze "Gebirge" im Vordergrund ist Gletschereis, das von Vulkanasche schwarz gefärbt ist.

Der Falljökull-Gletscher ist ein Teil des Vatnajökull-Gletschers. Der Vatnajökull ist der größte Gletscher Islands und zudem außerhalb des Polargebiets auch der größte Europas. Seine Fläche beträgt rund 8.100 km², was etwa 8 % der Fläche Islands entspricht. Das Eisvolumen wird auf über 3.000 km³ geschätzt. Die schwarze gebirgige Fläche im Vordergrund ist auch Gletschereis, welches von Vulkanasche schwarz gefärbt ist.
