Purple Haze ...

Taking a little break today from the cars and the bikes to upload some slightly more abstract stuff. Really like the final colour configuration on this one ... just wish I could remember which image I used to create it!

Hold Your Fire ...

Taking a little break today from the cars and the bikes to upload some slightly more abstract stuff. This colourful orb was actually created from another orb I did a while back - a square crop of which can be found in the Notes.

Open The Door ...

Taking a little break today from the cars and the bikes to upload some slightly more abstract stuff. Next up another colourful orb - yes these things are addictive! A square crop of the original shot as taken by me can be found in the Notes.

Ride To Live ...

03 Aug 2013 5 14 1442
Another unused shot which I considered using for The Sunday Challenge with the theme of shoot a stranger . Like the one I ended up using as my entry, this was taken at Northallerton Rugby Club when the Harley-Davidson Riders Club of Great Britain used it to stage their North East Rally back in 2013. And like the other one I decided to give this a mono treatment, but I went much darker with the processing and even added in some noise. I guess I was trying to give it a timeless cinematic quality as if it were taken in the days of "Easy Rider". Not quite sure I achieved that goal, but I still like how it turned out.

Live To Ride ...

The theme this week for The Sunday Challenge was shoot a stranger . More often than not I like to take a new photo for the challenge, but this week I decided to look through my archives and find some previously 'unpublished' shots that might suit the topic. This one was taken at Northallerton Rugby Club when the Harley-Davidson Riders Club of Great Britain used it to stage their North East Rally back in 2013. Unlike the vast majority of car/bike shows that I attend this one wasn't open to the public - it was more an event for members with entertainment laid on over the weekend. However, I had a word with the guys on the gate to see if they thought people would mind if I went in to take some photos and they kindly agreed to let me do so. The man in this shot was one of the first people I met and, like everyone else there, he made me feel welcome and not at all ill at ease. No real surprise though to me as I mixed with a great many real biker types during my young adult life. In fact, my best man when we got married was an ex-biker. Anyway, back to the shot in question. I was quite happy with it in colour, but decided the subject matter might lend itself to the mono treatment, which is the route I ended up taking. Hope you guys like it?

Watch The Birdie ...

The theme this week for The Sunday Challenge was shoot a stranger and although street scenes were mentioned it didn't have to be taken there ... as long as you shot a stranger and it was taken outside then it would do. More often than not I like to take a new photo for the challenge, but this week I decided to look through my archives and find some previously 'unpublished' shots that might suit the topic. This particular one, was a shot I took during a display at the Birds of Prey Centre at Sion Hill Hall, North Yorkshire and although I decided not to use it as my main entry I still thought it worth uploading. For anyone who might be interested, the centre was set up to provide the public with a rare opportunity to see and enjoy these beautiful birds. You can find out more about it by following the link below: www.falconrycentre.co.uk/index.php

1967 MGB GT - PHN 22F

12 May 2013 6 13 840
I think I've said before that MGBs don't normally do it for me, yet every time I see this one I start to question that as it's a beautiful example of the model. Had to do a little work on this as there was another car coming into view in the top left hand corner of the field. Oh, and in case you're wondering I wasn't lucky enough to catch a woman in a red top in the distance ... she was there, but she had on a pale blue jumper and I thought it might be interesting to colour change what she had on to pick up on the car.

1972 Triumph Stag - UVE 531K

Seem to remember this was one of the later arrivals, but even so, it was well worth waiting for as it appeared to be in fabulous condition.

1956 Austin A30 - FKS 871

12 May 2013 5 10 994
The Austin A30 was a compact economy car launched at the 1951 Earls Court Motor Show. Produced from 1952 to 1956, it was replaced by the Austin A35.

Feeling Austintatious ...

Yes, I know that's not how you spell it. Just a play on words to go with my latest orb, which is based on an arty shot I uploaded a while back featuring an Austin Seven logo. The background has been separately produced using the same base image, which you can see in the Notes.

Darling Buds Of Winter ...

24 Jan 2015 23 44 1285
This week's Sunday Challenge was to photograph three things the same, only one of which should be in focus , which you also had to treat in some other way .... a sort of 'two for one' if you like! So I decided to take 3 bottles of my favourite tipple, which must surely be one of America's finest exports after the early Ford Mustangs and the Chevrolet Camaro. The added spin if you like was that I shot them in near total darkness with only low/selective lighting ... cheers everyone!

Dogs At Car Shows ...

I see this cute little Westie at a lot of the local shows I attend ... seems it isn't too keen on the rain!

1928 Chrysler Series 65 - WW 7630

12 May 2013 1 2 748
Built in Detroit these replaced the earlier 62 Series and were available as a roadster, tourer, 2- and 4-door sedan, 5-window coupe, and a business coupe. This particular one is presumably a 21st Century import as it was only first registered here in 2001.

1959 Austin-Healey Sprite - 328 KPE

Back on 'tippy toes' again, this time to get a clean shot from the other end!

1959 Austin-Healey Sprite - 328 KPE

12 May 2013 9 8 1432
Taken on my 'tippy toes' to try and get a clean shot without a cluttered background, this gorgeous Mk1 Sprite was immaculate. Conceived during the early months of 1956 at a meeting between Leonard Lord and Donald Healey, to fill a gap in the market left by demise of the MG midgets, which were replaced by the larger MGA. The target was to produce a sports car for the price of a Morris Minor - around £600. The design had to be simple and inexpensive to produce - and this was acheived with the cheeky looking car, which rapidly became known as the Frogeye (UK) or Bugeye (USA) due to the headlights standing up on top of the bonnet. The Mk1 was manufactured from 1958 to 1961 and the Sprite name lived in various guises until 1971 when the last Austin Sprites were produced. Source: www.austinhealeyclub.com/pages/sprites.html
