Scotland / Aberlady

Scotland / Aberlady
The Aberlady Bay Local Nature Reserve was the first place to be declared a nature reserve in 1952. It consists of habitats such as low tide, salt marshes and sand dunes. The reserve is a large area, it takes some time to visit.

In Aberlady you can find a lot of wildflowers, also many local rare species.
The birds living in the Resevat are just as diverse, the populations change with the seasons. In autumn over 30,000 Red-legged Geese live here, coming from Iceland to rest and feed before moving on later in winter. In spring and summer many species come from Europe and North Africa.
Wheatear, Whitethroat and Blackcap nest locally, along with a few species of waders, including Redshank and Lapwing.

Kawasirius, ColRam, Jenny McIntyre, Marco F. Delminho and 6 other people have particularly liked this photo

Wow thank you Aschi for all that information. We have a similar reserve here at a place called Braunton. It's about 5 miles if you went in a straight line - otherwise it's about 20 miles by road. There are some wonderful birds and other animals there at all times of the year
