Greece, Kerkyra (Corfu), Mitropolis Square with Panagia Spiliotissa Cathedral

Greece, Kerkyra (Corfu), Mitropolis Square with Panagia Spiliotissa Cathedral
The Cathedral of Panagia Spiliotissa is the cathedral of the Kerkyra Metropolis. It is dedicated to the icon of the Mother of God Spiliotissa ("of the Cave"), Saint Blaise of Sebaste, and Blessed Theodora.

The cathedral was built in 1577 on the site of an ancient church dedicated to Saint Blaise of Sebaste. In the 18th century, the cathedral was reconstructed in the Baroque style.

In 1841, the cathedral became the cathedral of the Kerkyra Metropolis of the Greek Orthodox Church.

The two main relics of the cathedral are the icon of the Mother of God Spiliotissa ("of the Cave") and the relics of Blessed Theodora, which were transferred to Kerkyra in 1460.
