1776 Colostygia pectinataria (Green Carpet)

1776 Colostygia pectinataria (Green Carpet)
Geometridae, Larentiinae - Wingspan: 24-30mm.

A bright green "Carpet" when freshly emerged, and quite beautiful. It fades to an almost white background as it gets older, sometimes looking like other species. A common species throughout the UK, often occurring in quite large numbers, particularly in the west of the county, where bedstraws, the foodplant of the larvae, is common.

The flight season in Cornwall ranges from March to October, made up from a number of generations each year. Peak flight times are May / June and August / September. Odd specimens can occur outside the normal range on mild years, and can appear in November.
