Gynandromorph Poplar Hawk Moth

16 May 2024 7 10 266
A Gynandromorph Poplar Hawk (Laothoe populi) moth. It's probably one of the rarest and most unusual insects that I will ever photograph. The left side is female, the right side male. The colour difference of each side is quite noticable the male side slightly greyer and more defined. The antennae are also different, the male side being thicker the the one on the female side. Taken Shrewsbury, Shropshire May 2024.

Entomophthora muscae infected Dung Fly

17 Apr 2024 11 10 275
An unfortunate Dung fly that has been infected by the fungus Entomophthora muscae. Once infected the fly will die but the fungus causes it to land on a plant stem or flower and move to the highest point before it expires, thus allowing the spores from the fungus greatest chance of spreading to another host. This is an in camera stack of fifteen images taken in natural light outdoors.
