Orange Tip Butterfly Egg.

Orange Tip Butterfly Egg.
An Orange Tip Butterfly egg, laid on Garlic Mustard in my garden. These butterflies only lay their eggs singly, the larvae are cannibals and would kill and eat each other if more than one was present on the same stem of the plant. This egg has been laid for a few days, when first laid they are a whitish colour, that changes to orange as in this photo after a few days then just prior to hatching the eggs become a purplish colour.Taken at 7x magnification, Shrewsbury, Shropshire, UK.

Thank you Crystal, I cheated a bit to get this, I potted some seedlings of the plants up earlier in the year and placed them around the garden in the hope a female would lay on one of them, one did and the result is displayed above!
