SSC Rectangles
| |
|
|
|
SSC: Find a square or rectangular subject and photograph it without perspective distortion.
Rectangles in the subject must also be rectangular in the image (I will pay particular attention to this.)
Application: For example, for a distortion-free architectural shot.
It is a challenge to have a 90° angle everywhere between the subject plane and the sensor plane.
A 20mm to 25mm micro 4/3 setting gives me the best photo without distortion.

SSC- Look Up
Our city has many of these covered staircases that help pedestrians navigate the terrain in the Columbia River valley during rain and snow.

A Swallowing Swallow

If you look closely, this Tree Swallow is about to eliminate a bug. I almost deleted this sequence on my camera card until I noticed why the bird had darted off the wire it was resting upon. I never thought I would get a hunting photo of these quick-moving acrobats.
SSC - Hip level

For SSC. A hip level from my backyard. That is a peach tree blossoming what appears to be out of the bird bath.
Hip level without using the viewfinder.
Columbia River

For SSC., Camera oriented diagonally downward.
The Columbia River by Trail, British Columbia. I often see this view as I travel to a neighbouring community.

SSC - Frog's Eye View
| |
|
|
|
For SSC, Frogs Eye View.
Each frog's eye can see 180 degrees. I got my widest-angle lens, which comes out to 114 degrees. Frogs are also short-sighted, like the rats from last week. Our cedar hedge is about 3 meters high from my backyard. The Zambian hippos are enjoying the cool grass. The short-sighted frog can see them clearly but the sharpness drops the further the hedge reaches.

SSC- Rat's Eye View
Rats are nearsighted so everything distant is blurry. They rely on other senses to keep them oriented as they are mostly nocturnal. I simulated the width of their vision with this setting on my camera. Their peripheral vision is less than humans.
This photo was taken inside a rubber tire in a playground which provided the shade a rat might enjoy on a spring day. He enjoys the pickleball that went "missing" from the nearby pickleball court.
