Vomit comet

The public bus from Bumthang to Mongar climbing towards Thrumshing La mountain pass (3780m).
The locals named the buses vomit comet because of the incessant curves that make many passengers sick.

Thankfully the long distance between the valleys ensures that vehicles usually don't meet at the most critical stretch of road: Namling Brak, where the road crosses a rock wall with a sheer 300m drop.

Absolut nichts für mich, ich verkrampfe regelrecht bei solchen Fahrten. Wenn dann der vordere Busüberhang schon über dem Abgrund schwebt in der Kurve und der Fahrer nebenbei noch mit einem hübschen Mädel flirtet ist es dann ganz gruselig für mich. (Letzteres hatte ich auf La Palma ;))

Schönen Dank, Karsten! WIr hatten einen ähnlichen Bus wie diesen und unser Fahrer war buddhistisch gelassen (und wir wohl alle zu alt für den;-) Auf diesen Straßen kannst du eh nur etwa 25kmh fahren, aber ich war doch froh, dass ich an der üblen Stelle an der Bergseite saß,-)

Besten Dank, Christel! Beim Hauptbild machten wir gerade Mittagspause, das andere Foto ist vom Aussichtspunkt, nachdem man die üble Stelle hinter sich gebracht hat. Verkehr war aber generell nicht viel, vor allem nicht hier im Osten/ der Mitte des Landes.

I did wonder about the title.......until I looked at the PiP and then read your narrative. I feel sick just looking at the PiP :-)). I never used to have a problem with heights until about 10 years ago, and now I can't handle them at all.

Anyway..........two superb images Gudrun, the scenery in your main image is just splendid, but I don't think I'll look at the PiP again!

Thanks very much, Adele! As a tourist you don't get to use the public bus- in Bhutan you always get a guide, driver and transport, you pay a daily price which also includes hotels and meals.
But our bus didn't look much different fom this one, the roads are too narrow for bigger ones;-)

Ich hatte das Glück, an der besagten Stelle an der Bergseite zu sitzen;-) Die Beschreibung im Lonely Planet -Führer hatte mich schon vorbereitet (so ungefähr: der Berghang ist oft in Nebel gehüllt und das ist gut so, denn dann sieht man nicht, wie's runtergeht;-) Bei uns war Sonnenschein....

Herzlichen Dank, Heide! Die Fahrer bekommen es meist hin. Einmal vor langer Zeit ist ein vollbesetzter Bus runtergestürzt, aber das war während des Monsuns.... Und seither passen sie wohl auch noch mehr auf.
