Rack and ruin

Rack and ruin
WWII Nissen hut used as storage at the old harbour of Bakkafjörður, a small fishing village with some 70 inhabitants. A new sheltered harbour was built further inland and the old harbour fell into disrepair.

The main picture looks quite eerie, in a good way! A wonderful opportunity to take many excellent and different shots Gudrun.
Have a good Sunday.

Looking quite derelict and, as you note, the fog adds atmosphere. Great images.

THank you so much, George! Icelanders tend to leave their disused stuff just lying around...

Wow! That old hut has done well to last this long..............and it still has a certain charm to it.

I especially like the photo's in the PiPs - I like that sort of "detail" shot, particulary when there's rust involved :-)

I'm surprised that the Nissen hut has lasted so long Gudrun. These bits of plastic are going to be a problem for many many years to come. Surely someone should be responsible for them.

Thanks a lot, Amelia! Plastic is a real problem, we saw it on many beaches though part of it may well have come from further abroad. In the gannet colony you could see lots of green fishing nets incorporated into the nests... I'm afraid many people in Iceland don't care much, they just dump their old stuff. You see many farms where all the old cars and machinery just stand and rust .Life outside the bigger towns is hard, so it's usually townies who are more ecologically minded.
