Staðarfjall

Staðarfjall is one of the colourful rhyolithic mountains that are part of the Breiðuvik volcanic complex, seen here from the Fjarðará valley in Borgarfjörður eystri. In the note a farm making use of the Nissen huts left by the Allies after WWII.

Staðarfjall ist einer der bunten Rhyolitberge in Borgarfjörður eystri, die Teil des Breiðuvik-Vulkans sind. Aufgenommen vom Tal des Fjarðará. Im PiP ein Hof, der die den von den Allierten im 2. Weltkrieg zurückgelassenen Nissenhütten kreativ weiterverwendet hat.

Da ist auf der Karte auch ein Wanderweg eingezeichnet:-) Die Gegend ist gut erschlossen mit markiertem Wegen, die EInheimischen sind rührig, um den Bevölkerungsschwund zu stoppen.

Thank you, Steve! Yes, it must have been sitting round in the magma chamber for a while. This is the second largest area of rhyolite in iceland and one of the oldest, long extinct now.
