Caerleon: Roman Baths

Caerleon (Caerllion-ar-Wysg) lies on the outskirts of Newport on the banks of the river Usk. It was the site of the Roman legionary fortress Isca Augusta or Isca Silurum. The Roman baths had a swimming pool as well as a caldarium, tepidarium and frigidarium.

Caerleon liegt bei Newport am Ufer des Flusses Usk. Zu römischen Zeiten war es Standort eines Legionslagers, Isca Augusta bzw. Isca Silurum genannt. Die Bäder hatten ein Schwimmbecken sowie Caldarium, Tepidarium und Frigidarium.

Thank you, Jaap! It's a highly interesting place. As usual, the museum is presented so much better than in Germany. Using beamers to bring colour to the excavations is a stroke of genius.

Thank you so much, Rosa! The Baths are very well presented, they also show lots of everyday stuff (replicas of course) you can actually handle- like the sponges on a stick the Romans used to clean themselves after using the latrines;-)

Schönen Dank, Gisela! Die machen das mit Beamer, eigentlich sind das alles nur Steine;-) Mit den Farben kann man Caldarium und Frigidarium gleich erkennen und beim Schwimmbecken lassen sie sogar römische Soldaten virtuell schwimmen.
