Frontiers of the Roman Empire (2xPiP)
118 km long Hadrian's wall was erected 122 a.D. under emperor Hadrian. It runs roughly between Carlisle and Newcastle making use of natural features like Whin Sill and was fortified with a ditch and various forts, one of which was Vercovicium/ Housesteads Roman Fort.

Der 118km lange Hadrianswall wurde 122 n.Chr. unter Kaiser Hadrian im Norden Englands errichtet und verläuft etwa zwischen Carlisle und Newcastle an der schmalsten Stelle der Insel. Der Wall war mit Gräben und verschiedenen Forts befestigt. Eines davon war Vercovicium/ Housesteads Roman Fort. Der Hadrianswall ist zusammen mit den Antonine Wall (Schottland) und dem Limes UNESCO Weltkulturerbe.

Thanks very much, Rosa! The drizzle was rather unpleasant at times but it added to the atmosphere. It was rather difficult keeping the camera dry;-)

Tausend Dank, Tanja! Irgendwie passte der Nieselregen schon. Der war die typisch britische Sorte, die alles in Kürze gründlich nass macht. Regenschirm festklemmen und drunter vor fotografieren war nicht ganz einfach;-)
Bei dir läuft der Limes in der Nähe vorbei, cool! Bei meiner Uroma/Großtante im Remstal war ein hölzerner Wachturm nachgebaut, da waren wir als Kinder öfters.

eine sehr gelungene Bildgestaltung, der dunstige Hintergrund zaubert typische Stimmung. Die PiPs mit den Schafen bringen die dort herrschende Idylle nahe.

That is one of the very many place I would like to see! Excellent series, Gudrun...Romans did not manage to conquer brave Scotland (I read Picts and Scots were not particularly friendly...:-)
