Bajo Caracoles had 33 inhabitants in the 2010 census, a hotel/shop and a filling station. It's an important stop on Ruta 40 because filling stations are far and between.

I imagine the little towns were quite barren and lonely. That kind of atmosphere appeals to me, but I would not want to live there!

I think you need a certain mindset to enjoy living there but the ones that do wouldn't want to live anywhere else.

Wir sind 2008 auch zwei Tage lang auf der 40 gefahren und haben solche Orte (allerdings weiter nördlich) erlebt. Wirklich eine Erfahrung ... wir waren dann froh, dass wir letztlich nach Bariloche kamen.
