Gentoo penguins (Pygoscelis papua) nesting on top of Danco Island. Our expedition ship MS Polar Star can be seen down in Errera Channel.
Pygoscelis species build their nest from stones to keep them dry and often go long ways to feed. Even for us humans it was a stiff uphill climb, more so for the penguins hopping and walking through snow and meltwater.

Das sollte ein Leitsatz für die (bescheuerten) Politiker unserer Zeit sein.
Ich habe mir gerade eine Sammlung von Filmen aus der Videothek angelegt, die sich mit den Zusammenhängen der Natur beschäftigt.
Es ist unglaublich, was ich dabei gelernt habe - selbst in meinem hohen Alter noch... ;-))

Herzlichen Dank, Udo! Auf dieser Antarktistour haben sie auch diverse Filme gezeigt und die Wissenschaftler haben jeden Tag Vorträge gehalten- speziell für das US- amerikanische Kontingent an Passagieren war das ein echter eye-opener!
Ja Udo- man lernt nie aus, solange man sich die Neugier bewahrt- bleiben wir also weiter neugierig!

Tausend Dank, Uli! Die haben eine recht geringe Fluchtdistanz, nur ein paar Meter. Allerdings darf man ihnen nie den Weg zum Wasser versperren, sonst sind sie gestresst. Hier war ich etwas weiter weg, die waren mir zu dicht an der Kante;-)
