Marvellous viewed large. A great sky, but so sad to see all those dead Nothofagus - I presume from a volcanic eruption.

Indeed, I especially liked the lenticularis:-) It was afternoon and Ngaurohoe was obviously getting ready for bed;-)

That sky was changing all the time, fun to watch!
As far as I remember someone said the dead trees came from being waterlogged, there's a stream nearby. Actually this pocket of nothofagus survived the Taupo eruption 200 A.D. whereas large parts of the park have no trees at all!
