Lacapelle-Marival - Château
Lacapelle-Marival is a small town with a population of about 1300.
First mentioned in the 10th century, Lacapelle came into the possession of the Cardaillac family in the mid-11th century. However, during the Hundred Years' War (1337–1453), this family was unable to prevent the town from being plundered at times.
Later the conflicts between Catholics and Protestants, the religious schism divided the Cardaillac family itself. Thus, after the Edict of Nantes, Lacapelle served as a refuge for Catholics and the town of Cardaillac for Protestants.
The castle stands in the middle of the village and originally dates back to the 12th century; however, it was completely renovated in the 15th and 16th centuries. A massive square keep forms the core of the present-day structure. It was formerly surrounded by a moat. The tower is topped by a battlement.
