There you are Marie-claire a Simnel Cake a traditional Easter cake the eleven marzipan balls represent the disciples only 11 for obvious reasons, it's a fruit cake it should be cooked with a layer of marzipan in the centre I don't do that, it has of course been browned under the grill. The building depicted is the tower of the Old Hall, the blazon on the left is of the Grey family, the right hand one is the Ferrars family. In the thirteenth century Margaret daughter of Roger de Quincy, Earl of Winchester, married William de Ferrars, Earl of Ferrars and Derby, bring as her inheritance the Manor of Groby, Seven generations of Ferrars succeeded each other, the last of the name dying on 18 May 1445, his son Henry having died before him. His grand-daughter married Sir Edward de Grey, of Astley Castle near Nuneaton, he took over the Ferrars lands and titles.
