rsr[25] - Howard "Hotto"
Another make I didn't know about.
.
A rare example of a standard gauge Howard Locomotive. "Hotto" was built in 1930 at the Britannia Iron Works of James & Frederick Howard in Bedford.
The diminutive size is comparable to the petrol engine - a six cylinder Dorman side valve - which powers it. Many industrial locomotives were powered by diesel engines due to their economy, robustness and ease of maintenance.
The loco was delivered new to the Ford Paper Works Ltd in Sunderland, by 1968, it moved to Wiggins Teape Ltd, Hylton Hill {also in Sunderland}, again working in the paper industry. It was preserved in 1972, with a move to Lytham motive Power Museum.
In 2002, the loco came to Preston, and cosmetically restored. It would seem further works are underway.
