clch - hedge density in England

clch - hedge density in England
Hedges are an important environmental asset, in two ways. Probably firstly as an aid to supporting biodiversity [ for a hedge that hasn't been "replanted" - a greater number of native species indicates a greater age ] and secondly, regularly maintained hedges are an important means of absorbing carbon dioxide.
Note : in the name of "improving farming" a lot of hedges have been grubbed out to allow larger machines to work in larger fields, the crops tend to be monocultures and require a lot of chemical support.

Reversing the polarity of this map would, more or less, get you the density of Dry Stone Walls in England, which are largely concentrated in the Northern upland / sheep-rich areas.
