Alston Arches - the spate from "Desmond" is now dropping to the point that the turbulence from the drop over the weir is beginning to re-appear.

Well photographed.
I take it that Desmond was the name given to the storm.

I took the trouble to visit the linked information source and saw that like us you now name storms, we began a little earlier with Allan, Bodil also a system using alternate male - female names. Gorm is one I blogged about at the time.

These took the standard gauge railway from Alston into the bay platform at Haltwhistle.
Currently, there is a footpath along the top.
If you look at one of the low water images for the Arches, you can see the concrete bedding to protect against scouring damage.
