Railway bridge over the River South Tyne on the outskirts of Haltwhistle.
A number of images taken over the years showing both spate and low flow conditions, and some of the resulting scour holes {noticeably worse by April 2025}.
Designed by GB Bruce, built in stone from a local quarry [just outside the nearby village of Fourstones] and completed in March 1851. Some images to add ... Went for my first walk over then top of the arches on 28th October 2024 ! During which I discovered that the two southernmost arches were rebuilt after flood damage in 1852 but without the lower "internal" arch - which was originally supplied for a pedestrian / cart route that was never built.
The South Tyndale Railway are gradually building a 2ft gauge line northwards from Alston, recently they re-opened to Slaggyford. No idea how they will sort out the gap over the A69, when they get here ?
