Finnish mythology
In Finnish mythology, the sampo is a mysterious object or magical device that is often mentioned in songs. It is said to be a cosmological pillar that supports the vault of heaven, and is also the mythical axis mundi around which the heavens revolve. The sampo is said to bring good fortune and riches to its owner, similar to the cornucopia in Greek mythology. The creator-smith Ilmarinen forges the sampo for Louhi, the hag-goddess of the underworld, but then steals it back, which Louhi pursues him for. The sampo is also sometimes stolen by Väinämöinen and Lemminkäinen. ~ Source WWW
