Working hard up the gradient, rebuilt Royal Scot 4-6-0 46115 Scots Guardsman heads 1T53, the 15.12 Carlisle to Lancaster Fellsman steam special, round the Mallerstang Fells towards the summit at Ais Gill, 1169 ft (350 m) ASL.

I really should get out to see this locomotive in action. It was always a favourite when I was a young lad and it ran on the evening commuter train from Manchester Central to Buxton. In summer it could be guaranteed to set the banks on fire as it hammered up the bank towards Disley Tunnel.

This is the first time I've ever seen it in steam so I should also get out more! I had no interest back in BR days unfortunately and saw it for the first time at the KWVR in 1969 still in as-withdrawn BR state.
