Catherton Common

Catherton Common
Today Niamh and I joined fellow Flickrite Nigel Jones (seen here checking his net for interesting flies) for a walk around part of Catherton Common in Shropshire. A most enjoyable day out with many highlights including seeing two Adders and lots of Small Pearl-bordered Fritillaries.

For the mining afficionados the grassy mounds in the background are the spoil heaps and shaft remains of the extensive coal mining industry that once exploited the shallow seams in the area.
