Deborah Lundbech club has replied to Roger (Grisly) clubI don't know the artist Rose O'Neill, but you're right they do look like Kewpie dolls. I was reminded of the British illustrator, Mabel Lucie Attwell, but I think you're more on the mark with "kewpies".
