July 4, 1914

Sneaking in at the last minute once again. It's been a busy week.
I have approximately ten million photographs of July 4th post 1990, and apparently zero before that.
I managed to find this picture and one more (which I've promptly misplaced - grrr) in the later pages of the Michigan album, so I've posted it early.
Hope you all had a good Fourth, fellow Americans, and happy end of the weekend to the rest of you!

A lovely, peaceful image. I wonder if I'm just romanticizing but it seems that the people in the images of this period are a lot more relaxed than those in contemporary photos. Or maybe they're just exhausted from all of the physical labor.

Your impression is interesting, Rick. My first strong reaction to seeing the date was that they were mere weeks away from the beginning of the horrors of WW1.
Hope that doesn't cast me as darkly negative soul in contrast to your pleasant outllook. : )
