My first quilt (1)
| |
It's not perfect, it's not big, but it's my first quilt and I like how it turned out. All the fabric was already in my house; most of it was from a bag of scraps a neighbor gave me. All prints feature animals.

Pandemic chalk: Shakespeare

There will be free Shakespeare in our local parks again this summer, so this drawing alerts the neighbors to the dates at our nearest park.
Pandemic chalk: May Queen
| |
The chalk art on our walkway right now is loosely based in Margaret MacDonald Mackintosh's "May Queen" (1900). It's always lovely to spend some time with the women artists of the Glasgow Art Nouveau.
Pandemic: Mothers Day chalk
| |
The chalk on our front walk is a Mothers Day greeting, combined with a drawing based loosely on Gabriele Münter's 1909 portrait of fellow artist Marianne von Werefkin.
Cinco de Mayo in Gardena CA, 2024
| |
I don't usually share non-chalk, non-crafty photos here, but I was pleased with this one I took at the Cinco de Mayo festivities in Gardena CA yesterday. The costumes and dancing and music were amazing and hard to capture, but this is a taste.
Pandemic chalk: Star Wars memorabilia
| |
For a national chalk art event for May the 4th, I made a collage of vintage Star Wars stuff for the 1970s fan kid I was: a notebook with the classic poster, a cassette tape, polaroids, a Star Wars t-shirt, a movie ticket, trading cards, and Kenner toy figures. This only lasted one night; it rained early in the morning of May 5, and it's gone now. But that's why we take pictures, right?

Pandemic chalk: Mabel
| |
The chalk on our front walk in March 2024 is based loosely on a self-portrait by Los Angeles artist Mabel Alvarez (1891-1985); she might acquire more flowers as the spring equinox approaches, if the weather permits.
Pandemic chalk: Color wheel

This was a quick chalk drawing between rainstorms--yeah for rain! It didn't last more than a few days, but it didn't take long to make either. Now that we're past the March time change, and the bulk of the weather, i can start planning bigger chalk again.
Pandemic chalk: Valentines 2024
| |
For Valentine's Week in 2024, we have a chalk drawing on our walk, of 37 colorful hearts in concentric rings.
Pandemic chalk: Chalk circles
| |
We had colorful chalk circles on our front walk very briefly in late January 2024, but it's the rainy season so we started February with bare pavement again.
Pandemic chalk: Annunciation Angel 2
| |
For December 2023, we have a chalk Angel Gabriel in our front walk, based loosely on van Eyck's Annunciation (c1434). Today the Angel got rainbow wings and brocade robes.

In progress on our front walk right now, a chalk drawing of the Angel Gabriel, based loosely on van Eyck's Annunciation (1400s). I kinda like it in this state, but this weekend it will hopefully gain its rainbow wings and brocade robes.

For October 2023, our sidewalk featured a haunted portrait--the faces kept changing every few days! :)
