Vasquez Rocks

Vasquez Rocks
near Palmdale CA. If they look familiar, they've been used as a location for many, many movies for the past century. This particular spot is sometimes called "Kirk's Rock" because it's featured prominently in a Star Trek episode ("Arena").

, have particularly liked this photo

It does! A huge, very old, turtle.

Lovely shot--the presence of the car (and the figure climbing the rocks) conveys a feeling for the size of the rocks, which do look familiar . . . many westerns had gunfight scenes filmed here, I'll bet.

Yes! Apparently it appears in quite a few episodes of "Bonanza," for example. The car is mine; the figure climbing the rocks is my husband. We practically had the whole place to ourselves on a Friday afternoon.

It's absolutely worth a visit. Can't believe we lived in Southern California for almost 18 years before we got around to it.

Cool. There are gravel quarries all over England famous for shaky British sci-fi locations in the 70s. Doctor Who mostly, but Blakes Seven couldn't resist teleporting on gravel and beaches :)
