Lovely building, in a lovely October light,
but the composition doesn't wark too well.

Not perfect, I agree, but the best possible.

How so? You have a lovely light and interesting sky.
What was stopping you from including more east?

The fact that that would have make the composition unbalanced. I tried several different POVs and arrangements and this, overall, was the most coherent and pleasing, though, as I say, none was perfect.

The POV is fine, but you have it divided down the centre, and I find it slightly uncomfortable, because my eye is being led two ways at once (sky or house) instead of going into the picture. A landscape ratio, with a bit more house to the left, and a bit more space top and bottom, might have been easier on the eye.

Without knowing what was outside the frame, you're in no position to say what should or shouldn't have been included. With buildings that stand alone it can be judged how much space should be included around them, but when like here the buildings are contiguous (in effect continuing indefinitely in both directions) there is infinite regression - wherever the cutoff is made, it can be said that more or the whole of the peripheral buildings should have been included. I did indeed take a landscape shot from this same POV including more both sides, and take it from me that this was the better composition.

I don't know what was outside the frame. That's why I asked what was stopping you from including more east. There might have been a parked car, for all I know.
