It was decided to conserve the interiors "as found" rather than replacing or restoring them. They demonstrate how a once opulent Victorian house once looked.

Shortened Information from an adjacent notice board....> ''Heathcote mere'',. in years past,. this was an important watering stop for packhorses,.. which would have carried salt from the west,. and coal from the east.. Managing animals was taken seriously and as early as 1745 fines were imposed on anyone defiling the water or moving the walls. To the far left was a well for domestic use,. the villagers would collect water in buckets and other containers.

HFF,. walking the 'Stanage edge'

02 May 2023 37 69 174
Walking the 'Stanage edge' in early May,. or simply 'Stanage' ,.from "stone edge" a gritstone escarpment in the Peak District. Areas were quarried in the past to produce grindstones, and some can still be seen on the hillside—carved, but never removed. A paved packhorse road ran along the top of the edge, and remains of it can be seen. This is a most beautiful walk of which one never tires of revisiting. It is not evident from the photo that there is a scary sheer drop from where the fence ends.

A seemingly pointless stone pillar - along a track close to the ''Redmires dams'' is one of three 'sighting towers' and used during construction of a 4.5 mile [ 7.24 KM ] tunnel deep below,. The tunnel was built 1903 - 1910 to distribute water by gravity from the 'Ladybower dam' to supplement the 'Rivelin dam',. over the full length the water falls by a mere 6 ft.6" / 198 cm..
