The Chesterfield canal - and towpath - and..... a narrow bit'

As the brickword obstructs,. the sign states,. ''It's narrow ere'' Duck '',.. but 'duck' in this instance is nothing to do with the feathered variety... here, close to the old town of 'Chesterfield' .. ''Duck'' is regularly used to express a friendly passing comment to another person.... even total strangers...might say ''Hello duck'' .. ''how are you ? '' - one might reply.. ''Ay' up mi' duck,... I'm fine thanks''
