Winnats pass.... Castleton.. Derbyshire.

Winnats pass.... Castleton.. Derbyshire.
Showing a photographer with his gymnast model...and the clinging morning mist on the slopes... here is the deep gorge ''Winnats Pass'' running West out of the village of 'Castleton'
Once thought to be a collapsed cave.. however a more recent explanation it is more likely to be a ravine between the under sea coral reefs that originally formed the limestone.. (Wikipedia)
At any point when walking this area - fossilised skeletal fragments of marine organisms can be picked up at random.... (Dj.)

I know this place well (I was born in Derbyshire) but I realise I haven´t been here since 1977!

Gotcha'..thanks... Andy.. [you may already know].... it's a shame that the road through Winnats' is now busy with vehicles due to the collapse of the 'Mam Tor' road..out of Castleton.
I can't see em' ever repairing it.. and it'd be criminal to widen the 'Pass' road above.
Cheers from Dave.

Well I remember when using Winnat´s Pass was restricted use and the traffic (me included) used to wind its way along Mam Tor (Shivering Mountain its alternative name, as you know). Mam Tor was always being shored up as it slithered down hill taking the road with it and I suppose the cost just got too much for hard pressed High Peak council or whatever it was called then!

What an interesting shot Dave. Just demonstrates what people get up to at this time of morning. Another great landscape with interesting notes from you here. A wonderful scene, tempting me to take another look too.

Cheers, Herb
