Cley windmill,I know very well indeed having both stayed there overnight some 40 years back and more recently attending the wedding of my Niece within the mill itself. Also got photos of the happy couple behind that same fence -her in full white wedding dress blowing in the wind! ( I must resurrect some of those photos again). Thanks for the memories. Wonderful stuff my friend. ⭐
HFF, have a great weekend. Herb

I'm happy that you had a good look, and that it has brought back happy memories for you!
Obviously a lot of planning went into this to find somewhere with a clear sky, no streetlights, and ideally with a nice foreground object when looking north. I visited a shortlist of sites earlier in the day to see what was there, and settled on this one for the early hours of the morning.
I know you will fully appreciate the technical side.. do I up the ISO, or lengthen the time? In this case, since it is quite a wide angle, I figured that the movement of stars across the sky would be negligible in 20 secs. With the bigger magnification in www.ipernity.com/doc/2247998/50166138 I went for 10 secs.
I have one more picture from here to post, so watch this space!
I also think that you have a few more days available before it goes away, so look for a clear sky out on the moors somewhere!
Best Wishes, (slightly late) HFF, and a Good Weekend,
Peter

this capture is really fantastic. I like the beautiful dark sky with so many stars and the comet. It' s a fine combination with the windmill too.

I like the wind mill gives us some scale and reality I know the night sky is hard to get that reality so you can work out scale. This is why you see people add the milky way with shots of the ground and why my Bows have the ground as well they become more real.
Well done and as you see the hardest shot was getting out there first up in the dark but now its easy for you. you will note I have suggested groups as well for your photo'(s).
Steve
Peter_Private_Box club has replied to Steve Paxton clubThank you so much for your visit and very interesting comment.
As the conversations above tell, I had very carefully planned this outing to give the best chance of good pictures. I had actually seen it from my house a few days earlier, but it was very difficult to make out, even though there are not so many streetlights about. It needed a completely dark place, hence this is taken looking north over water.
As I explained to Herb, this is a very wide angle shot (I could have thrown a brick at that fence..) so as to get in the windmill from the car park, so no movement in 20 seconds.
One of the comet itself is here www.ipernity.com/doc/2247998/50166138 . Not a big zoom, but at that I couldn't go more than 10 secs without movement showing..
This is only my third,, Halley's comet (just like a fuzzy star), Halle Bopp (spectacular) and this one.
Following your kind suggestion I have added it to the groups..
Best Wishes
Peter
